On Grand Lake, in far Northeastern Oklahoma, I was on a boat after sunset. The wind in the darkness carried voices across the water. I could not understand what the voices were saying, but I enjoyed listening to the language of life all around me. What a memorable night!
Adrift at Night on the Water
There is the sound of soft waves
lapping against a small boat.
The stars just beginning to show
and the heavens afloat.
The wind brings a faint sound of
birds as they sing in the night.
The harbor grows distant, its
cottages twinkle with light.
There is the sound of laughter
far off and vague voices heard.
Oh I savor the language of life
without hearing a word!
